The AP Calculus AB paper is a three hour 15 minute long exam and consists of 2 sections. There is a 10 minute break in between sections. The exam format is as follows:
Section I multiple choice - 45 questions | 105 minutes | worth 50% of the exam score
Part A: 30 questions, 60 minutes (non calculator)
Part B: 15 questions, 45 minutes (calculator)
Section II free response - 6 questions | 90 minutes | worth 50% of the exam score
Part A: 2 problems, 30 minutes (calculator)
Part B: 4 problems, 1 hours (non calculator)
Note: The exam has recently had small changes made to its format. Prior, Part A of the multiple-choice section had 28 questions, and Part B had 17 questions.
You must use a graphing calculator (TI-84 graphing calculator or TI-Nspire, is recommended) for Part B of the multiple-choice section and Part A of the free-response section.
Due to Covid the 2020 exam was an open book/open note online exam based entirely on free-response questions and was onty 45 minutes long. Unusually, there were no multiple choice questions.
